STUDIO ETIQUETTE: THINGS TO KNOW


  • PLEASE ARRIVE 15 MINUTES BEFORE CLASS WHEN POSSIBLE (this allows you to arrive stress-free and ample time to relax the body and mind before your practice)


  • ONCE TEACHER BEGINS CLASS, NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO ENTER FOR RESPECT FOR OTHERS, EVEN IF YOU RESERVED.


  • WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND RESERVING YOUR PLACE ON-LINE TO ENSURE A SPOT FOR YOU (via mindbody.com, yogaloungemontreal.com or download our free app on iTunes or Google Play Store)


  • IF YOU’RE NOT BAREFOOT THEN YOU'RE OVERDRESSED (remove shoes and leave them in reception area or carry them into your changing area)


  • NO CELLS PHONES (not permitted in class due to disturbance and heat of room - leave cells on silence mode please) 


  • PRACTICE THE ART OF SILENCE

                                                                  SESSIONS ARE ALWAYS ONGOING. NO TALKING WHILE ENTERING, LEAVING OR INSIDE THE YOGA

                                                                  ROOMS STUDENTS ARE OFTEN MEDITATING AND RELAXING BEFORE AND AFTER THE CLASS.


  • NO PERSONAL BELONGINGS IN THE YOGA ROOM(except for yoga mat, towels, water and yoga accessories available to you - a basket  is in front of the doors to leave your keys )


  • DO NOT LEAVE MATS AT STUDIO (pay careful attention when taking your mat, members have taken others mats because of their similarities - we do not take responsibility for any forgotten, misplaced or mistaken items)


  • AVOID COMING TO CLASS ON A FULL STOMACH (eat light 2 to 3 hours prior to your scheduled class in order to feel nourished and energized)


  • ENSURE THAT YOU ARE WELL HYDRATED(bring water to during yoga practice - and also hydrate before and after practicing)


  • ALWAYS LISTEN TO YOUR BODY


     THE TEACHERS ARE THERE TO GUIDE YOU THROUGH A PRACTICE.

 IF SOMETHING DOESN'T FEEL RIGHT, PLEASE LISTEN TO YOUR BODY FIRST.

 TEACHERS ARE CERTIFIED AND KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, BUT ONLY YOU KNOW HOW YOU FEEL.

WE CAN ALWAYS SHOW YOU AN ALTERNATIVE POSE OR FIND A SOLUTION THAT BETTER FITS YOUR BODY.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HOT AND NON-HOT YOGA

Hot Yoga
  • Hot yoga is performed in a hot and humid room: the temperature varies from 35 to 38 degrees.
  • Hot yoga is a great cardiovascular workout since it accelerates your heart rate.
  • The heat helps your muscles relax, and therefore you can go deeper into your stretches
  • It is also very beneficial for detoxifying the body, by flushing the toxins out of the skin, one of the body's elimination organs.
  • Breathing techniques such as Ujayi breath (Ocean Sound) is integrated in the Yoga practice to help you calm your mind and focus more

Non-Hot Yoga
  • Non-Hot Yoga is just as beneficial as Hot Yoga, helping you strengthen the mind and body and increasing flexibility. Leaving you feeling calm, energized and ready to handle life's daily stresses.
  • If you are not sure if hot yoga is for you, you can always start with non-hot yoga and gradually go from there. Sometimes, it’s good to take a break from the heat and take a regular class. Some find it easier to concentrate in a room temperature setting.
  • In the Non-Hot Yoga classes we also enjoy using more props, such as chairs, bolsters and blankets, these can help deepen your practise, making it a great compliment to the hot yoga classes
